Working up the ladder

I have spent my whole life working towards success, I have succeeded and I have failed many times but each time I failed I came away with a new outlook, new appreciation, and a better understanding of what I could do to better myself.

In 2015 I began a journey into the educational field and found myself interviewing for a position in a school district close to my hometown at Cutter Morning Star School in Hot Springs, Arkansas. I was hired on as the District-Wide APSCN Coordinator but also took on the roles of E-School Administrator and High School Registrar. The job came with very little training, but I was determined to make it my own and succeed in which I did for two years. My main responsibilities for this position were:

• Prepare and review operational reports and schedules to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

• Determine the scope of educational program offerings and prepare drafts of course schedules and descriptions to estimate staffing and facility requirements.

• Prepare, maintain, or oversee the preparation and maintenance of attendance, activity, planning, or personnel reports and records.

• Collect and analyze survey data, regulatory information, and data on demographic and employment trends to forecast enrollment patterns and curriculum change needs.

  • Establish, coordinate, and oversee programs across school districts, such as programs to evaluate student academic achievement.

I am a very outgoing person who likes a challenge and am determined to succeed, so my personality truly meshed well with the job and allowed me to flourish in many different ways such as the ability to digitize all files, thus bringing the school up to date and into the digital age. Bringing all of our data into the 21st century was a must for the school, and I was determined no matter how many hours it took. The best thing about this job position was that I was able to work with others to achieve a mutual goal, and thus help the district succeed.

Being able to take on the position of District-wide APSCN Coordinator, E-School Administrator and High School Registrar opened my eyes to just how much I enjoy the leader role and being able to help others. One of the greatest lessons I took away from this experience is that hard work and determination will get you farther and gain you more respect in life than trying to take the easy way out. Nothing in life comes easy and this position proved that from day one, and I could not be more grateful for all that I learned before the position was absorbed due to budget cuts in 2016.

Life in the fast lane. Driven to Succeed
