Life in the Kingdom: Jesus didn’t die for your sins…

This might be shocking, heck it might even sound heretical, but…

Jesus didn’t die to save you from your sins.

Jesus died to restore a relationship to God that hasn’t been possible since Adam decided to do things in a way that made the most sense to him.

This relationship wasn’t severed because Adam had violated God’s rules, it was severed because Adam chose his own way, a way that didn’t include God. He chose knowledge, intellect, reason, a material mindset. He chose the way that seems right to a man (Proverbs 14:12). When he did so he cut himself, Eve and every human that came after him off from the Tree of Life, God. There’s nothing “wrong” with knowledge and intellect, they just aren’t capable of producing life. Adam and Eve (and every person born after them) were dead, absent of life, because they chose to separate themselves from the only source of life. God.

The problem that Jesus came to solve was very different than we think. Yes, he died and that act saved us from our sins, but most importantly he reconnected mankind to the Source of life. He put us back into a position to walk with God in the cool of the evening, should we choose to.

Christianity has such a bad name these days, and dare I say we’ve earned that reputation. We’ve focused so much on behavior and have led countless individuals to believe that their Daddy is mad at them. He’s not mad at you. He’s not even upset at the choices you’re making. He hates the pain that’s caused by the choices in the same way a parents heart breaks when their child is involved in something that isn’t good for them, but He’s not mad. He’s missed you from the very day that Adam decided that it was best for mankind to figure things out on his own. He wants to love you.
