Hello from the Philippines!
Hi there! My name is Jordon.
I’m a Californian currently living in the Bicol region of the Philippines. I’ve been in the Philippines since March 2019, and it’s now January 2020.
Before I came to the Philippines, I read so many lackluster blogs from people who didn’t exactly have the best grasp of the English language. That, or they thought stream-of-consciousness writing without formatting of any kind is fun to read.
On top of these things, most of the people writing these blogs were retirees. I’m not. I’m in my mid-20s.
Thus, I decided to write a blog for all those younger people who are thinking about doing what I did.
Now, I’m not going to say this is all sunshine and rainbows. It’s not. If you’ve never lived anywhere other than your home country or state, this is going to be a serious shock to your system.
What to expect from this series
This is not going to be a step-by-step guide on how to live in the Philippines. Every situation is different, every person is different. What this will be is a chronicle of my adventures here, and the difficulties I have encountered.
My goal is to upload to this series every week. Most posts will be in the 500 to 1000 word mark, though this introduction post is a bit shorter.
I may give advice from time to time, but I’m not going to hold anyone’s hand through their journey of living abroad. Each person has their own story that has to be told. This is mine.
A little more about me
Like I mentioned above, I’m a mid-20s Californian living in the Bicol region of the Philippines. I’m not like most working expats who live in population centers like Manila or Cebu. I live in a small town in a rural area.
It’s very different from the suburbs of Los Angeles, where I used to live. In fact, it’s different in a lot of ways.
I’ll discuss a few of these ways in the following posts, but for now, I’ll talk to you next time.
