Cultivating a culture of diversity is something we strive for at Dropbox. Our ability to build a collaboration platform of the future relies on having a variety of experiences, ideas, and representation at all levels. And much of our diversity we owe to our Sourcing Team, the unsung heroes who work behind the scenes to seek out engineering talent from — quite literally — all around the world.

“Different perspectives and outlooks, when combined, allow you to create the best overall solution from having different backgrounds thinking together toward the same goal,” says Technical Engineering Sourcer Jeremy Barrett.

Have you ever wondered how the Sourcing Team works to bring a variety of perspectives to Dropbox? Here are three ways they approach the task of recruiting diverse talent.

1. They practice what they preach

Sourcers don’t just focus on the growth of other teams at Dropbox. They’re growing, too. “When I was in sales, the Austin Sourcing Team had fewer than 5 people. Now we are around 30 people.” says Senior Technical Recruiter Veronica Velasco. “It’s great to see this growth and the different backgrounds they’re bringing to the Sourcing Team. It’s definitely grown a lot since I first started. It’s super exciting that this is a Dropbox priority.”

2. They look for a variety of skillsets

One of the goals of the Engineering Sourcing Team is to achieve at least 20% diversity, and they’re making good progress toward it. According to Technical Engineering Sourcer Ron Pritchett, “Besides the effort that we make in recruiting diversity, we represent diversity in the makeup of our team.” Monique Parker, Diversity Sourcer on the team agrees: “Everyone has different skill sets and interests and we all come from different backgrounds, so we have a lot to offer. We all work really well collaboratively.

3. They believe in deeper-level diversity

It’s easy for companies to review their hiring goals and data and say they are diverse, but there’s so much more to it. Our people is what makes Dropbox special. “We’re very diverse, not just in the way we look, but where we come from and our stages of life,” says Osagie Aisueni, Technical Software Engineering Sourcer. “It’s really fun to see and interact with sourcers from all different backgrounds. We’re a really tight-knit group of friends and family.”

As we continue to focus on growing our diverse teams, we’re looking to the forward to how the future of Dropbox will continue to evolve. Do you want to be part of a team that values unique perspectives as a way to work better together? Check out our open positions here.
