This year, our employee resource group Latinx@ changed “Hispanic Heritage Month” to “Latinx Heritage Month” to recognize the intersectional experience of being Latinx.

So, for Latinx Heritage Month this year, we chose the theme “Mejor Juntos/ Better Together” to celebrate and uplift all Latinx communities: Black, Indigenous, Undocumented, Immigrant, LGBTQ+, Women, and more. We encourage you to acknowledge the salient contributions and beauty that Latinx and Immigrant communities bring to this country. Our intersectional identities are what make us better together. During the month, we’ll be asking members of Latinx@ what the theme means to them.

Q: What is your name, what office do you work out of, and how long have you been at Dropbox?

A: My name is Analía Pérez-Solís. I’m currently based in the Austin, TX, office and joined Dropbox in July 2018.

Q: What’s your current role in helping make the world work better?

A: I am a senior account executive for the Latin America sales team. Essentially, I cultivate relationships with important people at innovative companies based in countries like Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, etc. I listen to their frustrations and help them find a value-based solution through Dropbox.

Q: In your time at Dropbox, what’s something you’ve accomplished that you’re proud of?

A: This year, I started leading the Latinx ERG in Austin, and one of the first events I helped put together was an Austin-wide “Latinxs in Tech” meetup at our downtown office. It was really impactful to have a diverse crowd from different companies networking and finding ways to collaborate together on initiatives — we even met some new partners for upcoming events!

Q: What does this year’s theme, “Mejor Juntos/ Better Together,” mean to you?

A: “Mejor Juntos/ Better Together” is all about celebrating each person’s uniqueness and appreciating the mosaic of differences that make us better. I grew up in Mexico, in a culture that is known for vibrant colors and rich culture, so this theme truly resonates with me. Not only does this apply to different backgrounds and cultures, but also celebrating that diversity makes for a more well-rounded workplace — we can always be better together.

Q: What topic do you feel is top of mind for you and the Latinx community, and why?

A: In the spirit of celebrating each other’s differences, the climate around recent events has not portrayed the same message. Acts of hate against others who may be “different” have overpowered that narrative. This month, ATX Latinx has set up a donation fund for RAICES, a nonprofit agency that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost legal services to underserved immigrant children, families, and refugees. Our hope is that we can inspire more people to continue supporting this cause.

Q: What are you most excited about for this year’s Latinx Heritage Month at Dropbox?

A: At Dropbox, we believe in education through celebration. I’m excited about everything we have planned this month and beyond — from our kickoff Family Night featuring Austin’s own Selena tribute band (Bidi Bidi Banda), mezcal tastings, papel picado making classes, Millennial Lotería games, and educational talks around feminism in Latin America. This year will be one for the books!
