Feeling like part of something bigger is something most people value in their jobs. Such is the case for Ron Pritchett, a technical engineering sourcer at Dropbox, who knows that his efforts are helping Dropbox become a more diverse, culturally rich place. We talked with Ron about how diversity impacts his everyday life — not only in the candidates he is sourcing, but on his own team.

What’s it like being a member of the sourcing team? And why do you enjoy being a sourcer?

Being a part of this team has been a breath of fresh air from my past experience. I feel as though I have the respect and trust of my peers and leadership, to work hard and get the job done without being micromanaged. My leadership team is readily available and make it very easy to bring any concerns or ideas to them. I enjoy the challenge and visibility of our personal and team goals. I feel like I am a part of the team’s success and that my role matters.

How have you seen your team grow or change during your time at Dropbox?

The team has consistently grown in both people and expectations. I feel that we are starting to create a culture of hard work and teamwork. I honestly feel that we are growing in the area of personal accountability and being accountable to our partners.

How do you think the sourcing team, plays a part in diversity and inclusion at Dropbox?

We certainly play a major role in diversity by creating strategic sourcing and recruiting plans for teams to hit their diversity goals. Besides the effort that we make in recruiting diversity, we certainly represent diversity in the makeup of our team as well. From what I can tell, our sourcing team seems to be one of the most diverse teams at Dropbox.

Why do you think diversity is important at work?

There are many answers to this, but to keep it high level, I think we have a responsibility to support underrepresented persons in affording them the same opportunity to not only join our company, but to succeed and grow within our company. Having a diverse makeup also brings in a myriad of ideas and creativity that is invaluable in meeting and exceeding company expectations.

How do you see the sourcing team changing (or staying the same) in the next few years?

I feel that as we will continue to grow, more opportunities will be created and we will become an even more complex recruiting machine.
