How Emerging Talent and their partnerships make Dropbox a place where everyone can thrive
Our emerging talent community has long been a fundamental entry point for many Dropboxers, providing programs and mentorship for everyone from new graduates to self-taught engineers, college interns, and beyond. And as they seek to make Dropbox an even more inclusive place for people to start their tech careers, they’ve partnered with dozens of organizations to help us reach, recruit, and support diverse talent. Read on for a breakdown of the Emerging Talent team’s active partnerships for 2022–2023!
Welcoming underrepresented minorities
- ColorStack — ColorStack is leveling the playing field for Black and Latinx Computer Science students. They are a nonprofit that runs community building, academic support, and career development programs for Black and Latinx college CS students across the country.
- Edlyft — Edlyft hires, trains, and builds tools for student mentors to lead live help sessions, in order to help more college students succeed in CS. Their goal is to equip more students to crush it in their computer science courses and land top jobs. This year, as part of this partnership, Dropbox sponsored 5 BIPOC women from universities across the country.
- TMCF — Emerging Talent and DEI partnered with Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), an organization that represents a network of 47 publicly-supported HBCUs/PBIs. As part of our inaugural partnership, we hosted a two-day virtual immersion experience for our CX and Engineering organizations and kicked off the sourcing process for candidates for Developer Infrastructure Engineering. We hired six interns into CX for summer 2022!
Building diverse communities
- Ada Developers Academy — Ada Academy is a non-profit, cost-free coding school for women and gender expansive adults. They prioritize serving Black, Latine, Indigenous Americans, Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander, LGBTQIA+, and low-income people.
- Grace Hopper, Tapia, SHPE, and Afrotech — Each year, our Emerging Talent team attends each of these conferences to reach and connect with tech professionals from all backgrounds who may have a future career at Dropbox.
Supporting alternative journeys to tech
- Year Up — Year Up is a workforce development organization that rigorously prepares underserved young adults for successful corporate careers and higher education. Through this partnership, we hired one intern into Emerging Talent in 2021 and two in Engineering in 2022!
- Next Chapter — Next Chapter is a program started by Slack that aims to help formerly incarcerated individuals find work and succeed in tech. The one-of-a-kind program includes on-the-job training, mentorship, and projects as they apprentices work towards a full-time position either with Dropbox or at another company.
The Emerging Talent team isn’t stopping here. New partnerships that support military veterans and pre-collegiate students, as well as our attendance at more diversity in tech conferences, will be coming soon!
