AI’s impressive ability to optimise materials, improve the customer experience, increase efficiency and, most importantly, reduce waste, is paving a new path for the packaging industry that spans the design, production and delivery phases. However, it is important to take a closer look at the impact on logistics — the key area that deals with the extensive transportation and storage of goods.

Revolutionising decision-making

The integration of AI into logistics brings with it numerous benefits, one of which is the facilitation of improved, intelligent decision-making. The technology’s inherent ability to carefully analyse large data sets — including weather conditions, traffic fluctuations, demand forecasts, inventory levels and cost considerations — provides logistics with sound insights. These insights pave the way for recommendations on optimal transport routes, effective schedules and expedient means of transport, optimising operations.

The automation capabilities of AI also eliminate the need for human intervention in performing mundane and repetitive tasks such as invoicing, tracking and reporting. Freeing human labour from such tasks enables a shift in focus to more strategic and creative tasks, increasing overall productivity and innovation in the logistics sector.
