You weren’t born for this $#!^

A poem by Jessica Semaan

You were born to create on a Monday

Daydream on a Tuesday

Be lazy on a Wednesday

Cry on a Thursday

Laugh on a Friday

Dance on a Saturday

Worship on a Sunday

You were not born to slave every day

To collect titles, amass fortunes, and live in the daunting future

You were not born to make the rich richer

Live in the ruins of your past failures

You were not born to kiss somebody’s behind

Do the things that mean nothing to you

You were not born to doubt yourself because it’s easy

And suppress your gifts because they said so

You were not born to suck it up, and drink your way through Sunday

Stop denying your true nature of creation

Stop denying your gifts, the space and time to flourish

and discriminating how and when your gifts will manifest

Stop saying yes because it’s safer

And no because it’s scarier

Be the artist you were born to be

Be lazy, do nothing, stare at a wall, go on aimless walks, procrastinate

So when Monday comes you can effortlessly write, dance, sing, draw, paint, speak, guide, touch, love, design, build, solve, breathe
