Many a times we see leaders who rise to stardom in life/job and then suddenly gets lost in the vortex. Over years, you must have noticed a pattern or two from these leaders.

I have seen these two types of failures time and again in corporate life — what is your experience?

  1. Leaders who starts believing the Yes men — this is probably a well documented way of how-to-fail-in-your-life. But still leaders love to fall in this trap time and again. The sweetness of the yes-men is too numbing often and believing sweet nothings is tempting most of the times.
  2. The other surefire way to fail as a leader is — when you start liking your team members, the immediate first-line, too much. You can notice those leaders who are always oblivious about the follies of their team members, trying to cover up for them every time there is a mess. The leaders start believing that protecting team members is one of the criterion to judge their deeds after life. But often some smart team members who are either inefficient or shrewd, start taking advantage of this.
