Apartments on Mars. Why not now?

Humanity has been trying to explore Mars for over 50 years, and already this complicated history tells us that at this point, the red planet can be quite tricky and challenging. Our goals and most projects aimed at its exploration are, alas, rather sci-fi-esque and now new research has confirmed this even more.

A new study has found that terraforming Mars won’t work just yet. Terraforming means to transform a planet in a way that allows it to support human life. However, NASA has just announced that despite the recent discovery of liquid water on the Red Planet it still might not have the proper ingredients to terraform into our next planetary home.

A new study published in Nature Astronomy has highlighted the fact that terraforming Mars might not be feasible due to a lack of C02.

Furthermore, If we are to set foot on Mars, then we must determine how to keep contamination at bay. Both regarding keeping our germs to ourselves and protecting ourselves from the microbes, we might discover there. There are many extra considerations to think about beyond what they consider for robotic missions. We have microbes and skin cells all over us so everytime we touch something, we’re transferring various bacteria.

But as we have said, Mars exploration is a long story. Many know about the Moon race between the USA and the USSR in the 1960s. Both superpowers had their sights set on Mars. The competition for space exploration was, in its time, the echo of the Cold War, but, in reality, turned out to be a push for space development in both countries. Let’s look at the sad but useful history of the Soviet attempts to reach Mars.

Although, the USSR collapsed many years ago the USA is still looking at performing missions to the Red Planet. In fact, senators getting ready for a new NASA authorization bill aimed at making sure that NASA’s long-term focus stays on human missions to Mars.

Asgardia’s point of view on the problem of the development of Mars was recently clearly designated in one interview, with the Head of a Nation dr. Igor Ashurbeyli:

“We have the most utilitarian goals — solving the problem of artificial gravity, protecting humans from space radiation, and the problem of childbearing in space. At the initial stages, we plan to create space arcs on Earth’s orbits where humans can reside permanently. And in the future, Moon settlements. We are not looking further into space yet, but many other companies and nations talk about the mythical Mars colonization and mining on asteroids. It is possible that some companies will register their businesses in Asgardia’s jurisdiction and will take on similar projects — we welcome any type of research».
