Candidate for Mayor Miryana Minkova:”Asgardians are now making history — and that’s amazing to be part of!”

Asgardia is electing its mayors, and today we are continuing our series of interviews with the election participants. We will talk with the different candidates for mayor from different countries around the world. We do not specifically select candidates to be interviewed; any candidate who would like to tell about themselves and their campaign to the entire nation of Asgardia has now this opportunity.

Contact us via email at elections-support@asgardia.space, with the subject line “interview” and your interview can be the next one.

Today we glad to introduce to you Mrs.Miryana Minkova — the candidate for Asgardia’s mayor from Sofia, Bulgaria.

- Tell us about yourself. Who you are; why did you become a resident of Asgardia?

By territory of birth on Earth, I am Bulgarian. I have graduated from the University of Sofia in Computational Linguistics, Speech recognition for home automation was my specific field of interest and study. I’ve worked in the sphere of IT as a programmer and later as a team and department manager in different companies. I was very excited when I first heard of Asgardia — I have always been interested in space, space travel science fictions had given color to my childhood. However, it always sounded distant. It seemed accomplishable but in a future that was not foreseeable. Suddenly, Asgardia made it look close and real and that was amazing. I was happy to become a resident. This is a nation that will not be separated by any artificial borders — by political borders, by religious borders. It is a community based on science and imagination, a community of friends.

- Why have you decided to run for the position of mayor?

There a lot of different organisations who decide to explore space, to send people or even forces to space, lots of country interests as well, lots of movies about protecting Earth, but up to now there never was a political aspect in it. Now we are speaking of a separate nation. I feel that the very best way to get Asgardia on the radar screen of a lot more of the public in Bulgaria is to participate in the Asgardia’s mayoral elections, posibly win and talk about it to the public. Politics is so personal and so explosive, so as soon as you enter that field, immediately there’s attention and recognition of the ideas. That’s what I hope to achieve for Asgardia in Sofia. This is a different shift in the thinking of just working as a scientist as our Head of nation, or as a influencer (this new profession — influencer), or as a writer. Being a member of the actual politics of a space nation is very different. That’s why I chose it as the best method for popularising the Space Nation.

- What contributions do you hope to make to your local community during your term as mayor?

I hope to generate a lot of discussion, and bring up what would be interesting to the community. How can citizens directly impact change? Making their voice heard through discussion. We want to make sure the problems that currently exist in our community will not be transferred to space. For this reason discussion is crucial.

- What problems are Asgardians in your district(city) facing and what would you do to help?

Recognition of the space nation will happen slowly, there will be issues and worries but we’ll get over them. I think if we told everyone 20 years ago we were all going to be connected all the time we would have thought that was crazy. But now look at us: I cannot imagine being offline. Disconnected. Disconnected from the world. (laughing)

So it happens — we don’t see it happening — but it happens because it’s inevitable, himanity is going to space. At one point it would be surprising that people did not beleive our Head of Nation when he first spoke of Asgardia back in 2016. And as it is happening the publicity of some of this new Nation, this new space Unity of minds, is handled well. Talking to the public is very important and thats what we have to do. First task would be to meet with our residents from Sofia. Gather them and speek to them, how each sees his role. That is what Asgardia is unique with — everyone is important to the success of the nation, and we need each and every one of the citizens here in Sofia to help us spread the word.

- What do you think are the most interesting projects that could be realised in the future by the space nation Asgardia?

The nanoplatform, our countries true territory, sent in space was very exciting. However, launching a habitable platform would be incredible and I am looking forward to it. Asgardians are now making history — and that’s amazing to be part of!
