The First Day of the International Astronautical Congress

Today was the first day of one of the most important events on the global space scene — the International Astronautical Congress (IAC). Hosted in Bremen — Germany’s main space city — this year’s IAC boasts record attendance with more than 6,000 people connected to the industry flocking to Europe’s major space center from all over the world. On offer are over 2,000 lectures, networking, and a range of other special events.

The IAC is a global, multidisciplinary event, which covers all space sectors and topics, and offers the latest space information. It is a hive of activity for people seeking to make new contacts and form potential partnerships.

Deputy Head of Administration Lena De Winne and MP Victor Demaria-Pesce

Deputy Head of Administration Lena De Winne spent much of the first day networking with meaningful players of the space industry and flying the flag for Asgardia. Asgardian Member of Parliament Victor Demaria-Pesce, holds a PhD in medicine and has a life-time of experience from space medical practice, is also attending the IAC.

In the afternoon Lena De Winne moderated one of the core events of the first day, the Global Networking Forum: “The International Space Station (ISS) as a ‘Launch Pad’ for the Future Astronautics: Innovative Technologies, Open Architecture, and International Cooperation for Deep Space Missions.” It featured panellists Kirk Shireman, ISS Program Manager (NASA), Dmitri Loskutov, Head of International Cooperation Department (Roscosmos), Evgeni Mikrin, General Designer (RSC Energia), and Mark Malqueen, ISS Program Manager (Boeing).
