Choose teamwork.

Dan Roby is part of our Pro Success team leading a team of Customer Success Managers. Read below to hear how his contributions to our mission and team will be impacted by our fourth value: “Choose teamwork.”

There are a number of things that keep me coming back. But, more than anything, what drives my ambition and contributions are Thumbtack’s mission and values. My number one value is “Choose teamwork.”

Teamwork is what makes the work at Thumbtack meaningful and fulfilling. When we interview candidates for the Pro Success team, we make sure to emphasize that we’re looking for someone who thrives in a dynamic, experimental environment, is motivated, hardworking and helpful… but most importantly, someone who wants to be part of a team.

There was a motivational sign that hung in my old college hockey rink that said TEAM = Together Everyone Accomplishes More. Cheesy, but true. The teams here encourage me to do whatever it takes to get stuff done. They motivate me to take on more so I get additional opportunities to work collaboratively with such inspiring people.

The Thumbtack teams are diverse. The variety of perspectives, creativity and ideas have pushed me to think outside my box and have enabled us to accomplish an enormous amount. It’s important to us to never stop improving, so I’ve always encouraged my team to ask “Why” around every decision, process and procedure to ensure there is a valid, relevant and valuable reason behind every move we make. This has the potential to open a can of worms, but their point of view and challenging questions have generated some great conversations, healthy debates and ultimately better decision making.

The team spirit lends to a collaborative stacking of the hands. It is incredibly exciting to put our heads together and rally around a project with people from all walks of life, backgrounds, beliefs and lifestyles, and to make those differences our strongest, most powerful asset. This enables us to do what we do best in our department — help pros get set up for success by providing them with one-on-one coaching, consultations that include discovery around their business goals, comprehension checks to ensure they know exactly how Thumbtack works and strategic planning and account optimization to maximize their success on our platform.

We are better because of our differences and truly have something special at Thumbtack. The elusive experience of engagement fueled by humility and respect for one another is an actual everyday reality here. I am so grateful that I get to spend a significant part of my daily life engaging with people who want to make the world a better place by choosing teamwork.
