Why I Joined: Allyson Letteri, Director of Pro Marketing
Allyson Letteri joined Thumbtack to build a marketing team geared to professionals on the platform — from the ground up. With the rollout of Instant Match in September 2017, Allyson’s team is busy creating the tools that pros need in order to succeed on Thumbtack. Here’s why Allyson decided to join the Thumbtack team, in her own words.
I started my career in management consulting at The Boston Consulting Group, focused on retail and marketing projects, before moving to Intuit where I helped launch new products in India, Canada and the United Kingdom for their global business. I spent my last two years at Intuit leading growth and retention marketing for QuickBooks in the United States. At that point I’d been at the company for seven years and had just welcomed my second child.
Hitting a career crossroads.
I was only passively looking but had a very clear set of criteria in mind. To even consider a job the company had to be high growth, mission-driven (with a focus on small business), in San Francisco, and had to have a great workplace culture and a family-friendly schedule.
I also really missed the smaller, nimbler startup environment of Intuit’s international offices. I’m always attracted to opportunities where I can build a new capability for a company — to create something from nothing.
The 15-minute pitch (and deciding to join).
I had been talking to Thumbtack’s VP of Marketing, Nikki Pechet, for a while and when she asked me to “please just get coffee” with her for the third time, I decided to hear her out.
About 15 minutes into our conversation I realized the size of the opportunity — building a marketing team for Thumbtack’s thousands of professionals from the ground up. And as a company, Thumbtack hit on all of my must-haves. I left our meeting eager to be a part of Thumbtack’s growth story.
My work at Thumbtack today.
My earliest projects were creating a new way to onboard Thumbtack pros and thinking about the best ways to leverage other pro-facing teams in our Salt Lake City office. Plus I had to think about who we needed to hire to build a marketing team that touched pros at every point along their Thumbtack journey.
We’ve built an amazing pro marketing team — one that is always thinking up new ways to give pros the tools they need to get hired on Thumbtack (helping them grow their business grows ours). And with the rollout of Instant Match, our team is helping professionals navigate a new Thumbtack with features, content and messaging.
We still have so much ahead of us as a company. We’re continuing to find new ways to provide value to our pros, from tools and features to a new community where professionals across the platform can come to connect and support one another. There’s a lot to be excited about.
