Better To Be Hated Or Loved Than Obscure
Why Millennials Want Cash For Christmas
The number one problem that most entrepreneurs, or anybody trying to do something significant, has to overcome, is obscurity.
We have to scale what we do, in order to grow. Bo Jackson was excellent at football, and went on to play baseball, competitively, and did well. Kanye West is not just a successful music artist, producer, but a great up and coming fashion designer.
We can be great at more than one thing, but, we have to make sure that we are great at each of them. The saying about being a jack of all trades and master of none does not necessarily translate to every person or situation.
To have multiple streams of income, investments, talents and passions, is about being ourselves in all of the things we invest in. There is no point investing in things we do not understand or hae no interest in.
According to a study posted on Fox Business, the only thing that millennials want for Christmas, more than anything else is cash. Cash is not what we really want, we want the attention and power, options, and freedom it brings.
Let me rephrase that, we want attention from the right people, those who are influential, and have a large reach. This means that we have to be excellent at what we do. After all, this is why social capital is so important in this connected world.
This is also why people put billions, and even trillions worldwide, into advertising every year. Millennials are struggling to deal with the debts of a previous generation, on top of their own issues and want a way out.
It is better to be hated or loved than tolerated. Obscurity is for people that are lukewarm, those that are not fervent, and excellent, or do not go the extra mile in what they do.
Let us take authors for example, all authors want to get their message out, to as many people that are interested, as possible. If they had the chance to press a button, and that was the outcome, they would.
That would give them more influence, recognition for their work, greater economic power, credibility, and help them to gain trust among more people outside of their target market. The numbers speak, results speak louder than words.
Attention is even more powerful in a world full of information overload, hundreds of daily media messages, and voices all over fighting for our attention. Our image and ability to attract attention, can draw more than cash.
Sometimes, I watch Youtube and see some of the people who have incredible amount of views. In my opinion, some of them do not show any talent, apart from the fact that they have a personalities that are likeable, or have commercial appeal.
One thing that I cannot deny, is that they are consistent, no matter what people, personally, think about them. To do what they do, does take effort, time, and creativity to decide what to say, and the ability to hold the attention of the audience they appeal to.
The truth is, no matter how much of a fan you are of somebody, if they are not adding value, you instantly become disinterested at that moment. The ability to grab and hold peoples attention is a skill in itself.
Whether we are millennials or not, we are all trying to get somebody’s attention in a world full of noise and voices.
Cash is not always the solution, we need attention, and that can create opportunities to make cash, and more. We can also use cash to grab attention.
Sometimes, to get to where we want in our careers, finances, personal and spiritual lives, we need to know how to get the attention of the right people.
- Whose attention do you have to get to get to where you need to be?
- What are the ways you can do that?
- Write them down, and pick the three most effective and simple suggestions.
