Steal My $M Business. I Challenge You.
You have 30 days, and 90% of the work is already done for you.

I spent over 2 years working on a business opportunity, early 2012.
I came across a problem, an exciting one to solve, and saw the potential was big enough ($M+ in less than 1 year) if done right.
So I worked on it in my evenings. I had a lot of spare time to experiment.
Today, 90% of the work is already done.
The
- complete design of the solution,
- customer validation,
- supplier relationships,
- financial models,
- branding,
- presentation deck, etc.
Even the hardest part — the path to market is ready (more on this later).
…And I’ve decided to give it all away for FREE.
But here’s the catch.
I’ll only give it away to the one person who can steal it by doing a better job of it than I can.
You have 30 days to prove yourself. 1st May 2016 is the deadline.
Here’s the exec summary on what the opportunity is.
I’m a big fan (addict) of coffee. Bit of a coffee snob.
So after doing my morning coffee for years, I kept questioning why coffee cups are designed the way they are? It seemed impractical.
Why must we be required to pinch our first finger and thumb so tightly to balance this excruciatingly hot liquid in mid air just to take a sip? Or why must all cups be this half cube-like round shape to them? Who came up with the handle with barely enough finger space?
Who decided this is the way it should be?
Why did they do it this way?
Side note — I now know that if you ask the question “why” enough times, you’ll come up with an innovative solution. Thanks, Elon Musk.
A coffee cup should be designed to:
- Make drinking coffee as easy as possible,
- Make serving it as easy as possible, and,
- Improve the perceived taste of the coffee inside it.
So does the current structure do this?
In 1950s Claus Riedel — a 9th generation glass blower — must have asked this same question before he designed Riedel wine glasses.
He manufactured glasses specific for each type of wine which help make wine taste better.
So he designed wine glasses for each particular wine that aided in enhancing their respective taste. This was revolutionary.
A business which is now reaching close to half $B/year in sales.
Yes, that is $500,000,000 per year.
Wine glasses as we know them today with the long thin stem and the impossibly thin-crafted mouth weren’t like this, until Riedel made it so.
And naturally, due to the sheer number,
There are more coffee shops, restaurants, bars, at home users, etc. that would purchase coffee cups for the same purpose than those that would wine glasses. The opportunity is there for someone to do what Claus Riedel did with wine, to coffee. At an even bigger scale.
So, Riedel owners (George and Maximillian), if you’re reading this right now, you’ll likely be buying this company in a few years time.
After lots of trial and error, here’s the solution I developed:

Hiring a product designer/engineer and an outsourced researcher — through months of testing, we redesigned the coffee cup to one that actually helps make the espresso based drink inside it taste as great as it possibly can.
How does it do this? It enhances each aspect of the experience.
- Touch — Full hand grip around the cup in a position that’ll ensure ideal flow so your drink lasts longer. Feels lightweight and sturdier, as it is the natural way to hold a cup for maximum comfort. Giving you the closest possible experience with your drink.
- Sight — Selected colour has been tested to positively influence the taste. Plus, a visually appealing look of the handle gives it a premium feel.
- Smell — Mouth of cup designed for aroma to reach the nose when taking a sip.
- Practicality — By redesigning the shape of the cup to one that has curved walls, it facilitates ideal flow. It minimises overflow and spills. Sized for 8oz and 12oz drinks — two most common.
- Comfort — Aside from the full hand grip, the mouth of the cup is angled in a way that will allow a resting seal for the mouth. So no cup will feel as comfortable to take a sip from than this.

The name for the brand was Half Sipped.
Here’s the logo.

Once the design was complete, then 3D print were created to test the initial concept. With coffee enthusiasts, cafe owners, and the general friends.
The resulting feedback was overwhelmingly positive.
The story and the solution seemed to hit the home run.
And here’s the important bit. The hard part of each business — reaching your customers— is virtually already done.
— I have a strong contact with a nationwide retailer (kind of a big deal!) who will stock this product on their shelves for a set period of time. So a great deal of the pavement-pounding won’t be required. Customers will still have to be told about it, but premium shelve space makes this a big win.
Now, naturally, let’s point out the elephant in the room before we go further.
“Okay sure Elon, if the business opportunity is so good, why are you letting me steal it?”
I want you to steal it because there is one technical hurdle I haven’t overcome. It gets in the way of this solution being functional.
And with current time commitments and bigger projects over the past couple of years needing my involvement, it keeps getting pushed back further and further on the to-do list.
So I want someone enthusiastic with the time, drive and ability to take on this project and make it a reality.
Instead of burning through life savings, going through the gauntlet of setting up a business blindfolded, and taking years to gather the necessary learning. This will hopefully be a chance to have your hand held through the process.
I will be many times happier to see this product on the market than it not being done and sitting on the back-burner because I don’t have the time.
I will be your first paying customer.
So I’m writing this to find someone better than me to pass the baton on to.
And to evaluate this better person, the technical hurdle I mentioned, is what I want you to provide the solution for.
There is an oversight in the design which will require a creative solution to solve. I won’t be telling you what it is, because I want you to figure it out. What I will tell you, it isn’t easy to solve.
I already have a few solutions, but then, I am not the one trying to solve it.
You don’t need any product design experience, I don’t have any. There are many freelancers you can reach out to on the usual websites (Elance, Upwork, Freelancer, Fiver, etc.) to help you with anything you can’t do yourself.
To start, here’s the package you’ll need to download:
- All Solidworks design files and product schematics,
- Complete financial model,
- 3 different video animations (with a bonus design),
- A presentation deck and marketing material — for all pitches,
- Logo design (ai file), all research, and marketing material, and,
- Manufacturer contacts with all key questions already answered and quotes that you can use to get this produced.
Plus, I’ll provide my assistance in tackling tricky hurdles and getting it to market. Only once significant progress has been made.
I have in the past waited until that lightening strikes when heavens open up and suddenly a $M idea rains down upon you. And on that day you’re set free to gym every afternoon, as your work and life is taken care of automatically.
And, of course, that never happens.
It requires a lot of hustle, lots of hitting your head against the wall, lots of sleepless nights, and doing lots of work that goes nowhere.
If you’re able to steal my idea, 90% of that should be taken care of.
If you’re a great problem solver, and someone who is able to put the work in to do the remaining 10%. I will have everything transferred across to you (including any IP).
Half Sipped will be your business, you can brag on LinkedIn and call yourself “CEO” if you’d like.
But remember, you have until end of 1st May 2016 to produce a solution.
So get on your bike.
How Do I Submit?
Submit your creative solution (with diagrams and a clear reasoning) to [email protected] by the above date and I’ll add a note to this post to announce the winner.
If you‘re a superstar, and the absolute best at making things happen. Don’t keep dipping your feet in time-wasting stuff.
The world awaits the Riedel of coffee.
I hope you make it happen.
Again, 1st May 2016 is your deadline.
