The in-between.

The in-between is where you often find yourself as an entrepreneur. It’s where you find yourself when you’re working on or toward something, anything, you truly care about. When everyone’s gone home. When folks are done thinking about and caring about the job at hand — in that moment, especially in that moment, you’ll find yourself working your hardest. 6:30am in the office. 2:00pm on a Sunday afternoon. Lying in bed at 3:00am. Thinking. Planning. Exploring new ideas.

The in-between is a thankless place. You won’t get pats on the back and “good job” reinforcement for all the work you do when no one’s watching, and you shouldn’t expect it. You don’t need it. You’re motivated by the labor of love that is building what you believe in.

The in-between is where the highs feel higher and the lows feel lower. As much as you try to shrug it off and say it’s “just a job”, to you, person in pursuit of your passion, it never, ever can be discounted to simply punching a clock. It has to be more. It’s what you signed up for. Where you find yourself today, and every day that you’re down this road is because you stood at two very divergent paths and chose to step toward the road less traveled. Down a path that, no matter how hard it may be to see the end of the trail, you keep moving forward because you care enough to never look back.

The in-between is lonely — isolating — frustrating — exhausting — and confusing. But the in-between is also fulfilling — rewarding — prideful — and exhilarating.

The in-between is where I find myself today. It’s where I’m humbled. It’s where I’m thankful. It’s where I thrive.
