Bench is more than a bookkeeping company. We’re here to fundamentally change how business owners work, grow, and live their lives. Our mission is to make a profound difference in the quality of life of one million people. The contributions from the people who work here is the only way we’ll get there.

When you apply for a role with Bench you might be asked to answer some application questions, before being asked for a resume. Our recruiters and hiring managers really do take the time to read your answers, so put some thought into them. Here at Bench, we value authenticity and honesty, so be yourself. Also grammar — it’s as important in these questions as it is on your resume!

Your first conversation will be with a recruiter and one of the first things we’ll want to know is “Why do you want to work for Bench?” The key to Bench’s success is our people and our culture, and in this remote world, culture and connection are vital. That doesn’t mean we’re looking for cookie-cutter Benchmates, we don’t all look and sound the same, but you DO need to be excited about what we do and how we do it. We’re looking for Benchmates who are passionate about Bench and what we’re doing in the world. We have a lot of online resources and information available, so make sure you do your research and be ready to tell us why Bench is the place for you.

Your recruiter will also ask you some questions on your technical skills and expertise, and how that relates to the role. Make sure you’ve done some research on the job you’re applying for and can talk about what you’ve done before and how it’s relevant. We’ll also ask a lot of behavioural questions to find out a bit more about you as a person. Core skills are just as important as your technical expertise. We’re looking for people who have a growth mindset, who love to get and implement feedback, and who are looking to grow and develop in their role.

You’ll be invited to at least two rounds of interviews (your recruiter will outline the process for you) and we truly believe that this is as important for you as it is for us. These interviews give you the opportunity to fully understand the job requirements, to meet with several of your future Benchmates, and to thoroughly interview us. When you take a new position it has to be right for you and we want to make sure that you’re set up for success. So take every opportunity to ask as many questions as you need to.

All of our job posts have the salary range listed, and your recruiter will verify that this is a range you’re comfortable with. We are working towards a company wide non-negotiation policy, as part of our ongoing efforts to become an anti-discriminatory and anti-racist company (read more HERE) and we’ll be transparent about the salary we plan to offer, and why.

Regardless of how much time you spend at Bench, we want to make sure that you learn a lot, that you leave with more skills and more close connections than you came in with, but mainly that you had a great time while you were here!
