Amit, Fullstack Engineer at Bitwala

When faced with the exciting possibility of moving halfway across the world to live and work in a city he’d visited only once before on holiday, Amit, a full stack developer from a small village in India, was convinced the experience would be an opportunity of a lifetime.

Amit explains how a vibrant city, modern tech stack and clear relocation process made Bitwala the natural choice for his next employer.

Before starting at Bitwala, Amit worked as a front-end developer in Abu Dhabi with experience in NodeJS. His responsibilities lie in building web and mobile services for Bitwala. The main coding language he uses is Typescript (which is a superset of Javascript), with React, GraphQL, React-Native, NodeJS and other libraries.

How did you find the visa process?

“The whole visa process went extremely smoothly, from applying to getting the necessary documents required. Most of the documents arrived on time and HR was always in touch with me before and after applying for my VISA. I got my VISA in a couple of weeks without any hassle”.

How difficult was it finding an apartment in Berlin?

“Bitwala’s HR helped me find a beautiful flat near to the office. They even communicated with the owner regarding the price and deposits and helped me get in touch with them to finalise the agreement”

How did you find the relocation to Berlin overall?

“I was afraid of being alone or left out, which is the most common fear for employees when they are relocating to a new county. But luckily at Bitwala, it’s very different, my relocation buddy helped me with work-related and personal matters. He helped me get around the city, told me about the best restaurants to try out and places to hang out on weekends. Apart from my relocation buddy, everyone in the office is super helpful and always asking me if I need help with anything. So you don’t have to worry about anything after joining Bitwala.”

Finding and starting a new job is exciting but moving abroad for work can be pretty daunting, especially when you are moving to a new continent with a completely different language and culture.

Here are 5 steps on how Bitwala supports an employee throughout the entire process, from relocation to their first day.

1. Planning the big move

Amit received his offer email in March, from that moment on he has constantly been in contact via Google Hangouts with HR to discuss and plan the entire relocation process from start to finish.

2. Relocation packages for peace of mind

We offer relocation packages for international hires. Expensive flights, down payments, public transportation subscriptions, we are aware of how many things are needed when moving to a new country — but don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!

3. Guiding you through a complicated VISA process (that doesn’t have to be so complicated)

We support international hires with the entire visa application process, as well as preparing the necessary documentation for your VISA appointment.

4. Finding your perfect nest

There is nothing more important than a secure place you can call home. Based on your budget, preferred size or preferred district, we can help you find your dream flat in your new city.

5. Having someone to call a friend

After landing in Berlin, a relocation buddy will be assigned to you. He or she will help you get familiar with the office area, surroundings and city.

Constant support — at all times

Bitwala is always there for you, no matter what.

From bureaucratic to personal issues, we always stand by our employees. There’s nothing more we want than for them to have the time of their lives at Bitwala, both professionally and outside working hours.

It’s time for a change. Make Berlin your home and work for a company that truly cares: https://www.bitwala.com/careers/
