Values determine culture, Culture determines Behaviour, Behaviour determines Outcome” — Rohan Dredge

The dictionary meaning of the phrase ‘Core Value’ says — a principle or belief that a person or organisation views as being of central importance.

It is frequently said by recruiters and hiring managers that the ideal candidate is one who has relevant skillsets, is technically sound and is a cultural fit. No wonder, Core Values are significant in talent attraction, acquisition and retention at large.

Core values strengthen the foundation of the organization and ensure that all the employees are working towards one common goal. Those become the must-haves for any business to thrive and survive in a competitive market. It aligns with the business mission and vision and reflects the culture of the organization.

Below are the fundamental core values which are the crux of ikigai, differentiating us from the rest!

  1. Consistency — 1% improvement every day

Consistency is key! Massive success does not always require massive inputs or actions. We as humans tend to think that in order to achieve heights, we need to put in aggressive effort which would give result in earth-shattering outcomes. And that folks, is adding unnecessary pressure on your already full plate. However, we at ikigai believe that the aggregation of small daily improvements results in extraordinary outcomes. Hence, we focus more on improving by 1% every day and celebrating the small wins too!

2. Craftsmanship — We are makers, and we believe in craftsmanship

Each of us nearly spends 40–45 hours working a week. And how we work, significantly affects how we feel at our respective jobs. In this modern era, as modern employees, we tend to work just to get it done, whereas, a craftsman approach is more about creating processes, learning from mistakes, and reflecting regularly without waiting for external validation. It is an artistic way of working which goes a long way. We at ikigai, take this approach into our working patterns and ensure that we evolve to be better working professionals and individuals!

3. Meaningful work — No need to be crazy at work

It is quite difficult to measure productivity at work merely by calculating the number of working hours. We tend to be aggressive at work, believing that being busy is equivalent to being productive. However, we believe in doing meaningful things and tasks, thus, spending minimal or no time doing things which generate no impactful output. This creates a sense of engagement, worth and productivity at work.

4. Thinking Deep — We encourage original thoughts and innovation

Right from deciding on content for your social media posts to devising a strategy for onboarding more customers or preparing a hiring strategy — Brainstorming is a must-have process! We at ikigai believe in critical thinking and formulating ideas which are original and out of the box. Innovation isn’t limited to planning and thinking but also expands into the execution process. There cannot be just one way of doing it. We go the extra mile and ensure we include innovative ideas from our team members.

5. Feedback — A champion’s breakfast

It is no hard job to pause, observe and praise someone for the good things they have been doing and to acknowledge the targets achieved. However, when it comes to negative feedback, humans tend to put off such engagements and conversations. Constructive feedback is crucially important for interpersonal relationships. It helps in setting clear expectations and establishes a trusting environment. Any obstacle, if not addressed initially, comes back as a bigger problem. Hence, we ensure that we do not just accept the feedback and improve consistently but help others too by providing feedback.

6. Ikigian — We believe in ikigai, and we live ikigai.

When you do something you love, you find yourself enjoying it even more! We at ikigai know what we are passionate about and hence all of us are working towards making an impact by doing what we love the most! Knowing the purpose of doing something, gives a feeling of contentment once done. Safe to say, we are living our ikigai!

It is extremely important to keep the core values of the organization alive as those are the values which reflect your culture. It answers the ‘How’ and ‘Why’ of your organisation and business at large. Hence ensure that whatever you do is aligned with the core values!
