Helpful Letter #13

Hello!

I hope you had a good week. Tomorrow is the start of a new month. The first two months of the year are over. Before you know it, you’ll be in 2022.

Time goes by fast. As a writer, you need to make use of your time.

Make sure you spend less time complaining, and more time writing. Spend less time on activities not related to writing. Spend less time surfing social media.

Spend your time on social media to engage with other writers. Read their work. Leave a comment. Highlight a sentence that you love.

All of this will pay off. In the beginning, it may seem like nothing, but I believe that all the time you put in will come back to you one day.

No one said the writing process was easy.

No one said a job of a writer was a piece of cake.

The job of a writer is tough. You are the writer, editor, designer, marketer, organizer, researcher, cheerleader, and bookkeeper.

In addition to these typical skills, you also need to have thick skin. Every once in a while you’ll get the haters that come out of the woodworks. For no reason, they’ll pick something that you wrote that sets them off. I wrote an article about the minimum wage and someone on Twitter went off about what I wrote.

You never know when a reader will criticize something you said. Maybe they’re having a bad day. Maybe something you wrote reminded them of a bad time.

The life of a writer is not easy. The rewards are there as long as you put in the work.
