Helpful Letter #16
Hello fellow writers,
Last night, I wasn’t sure what to write about since I try to make this personal to help you as a writer. This morning it came to me, so you get a letter today.
Over the past few months, I was looking for a writing job. I have sent out resumes for months since July. I applied to two to five jobs a week.
I was accepted to News Break in November and then this month I was hired to write for a financial company and a military-focused company.
I can say getting hired wasn’t easy. I was consistently looking for and applying to jobs each week. I set up my LinkedIn account, Indeed, and two other sites that sent me job updates just about every day.
It was tiring looking at all the jobs to see if I was qualified or not. Some jobs require you to know some other things than writing ranging from PhotoShop to several years of writing experience in a niche to WordPress experience.
Then some jobs paid very little compared to how much work you had to put into the writing job. This is something to pay close attention to.
If they require you to follow a specific guideline, you need to be aware of how much time this requires besides writing. Sometimes it really isn’t worth it.
Companies pay you very little for the work and time you put in. Not every writing job is worth your time.
Just a quick note if you decide to pursue writing full-time.
I hope this helps.
Take care,
Tom
