Before blogging went mainstream, I wrote online on various websites called forums. Blogging officially started in 1993, but websites allowed users to share their thoughts online in public forums.

Around 2006, I wrote on a website called Company Command. I was preparing to take command in the Army and used the site to learn and gain information I could use. Other people who had commanded shared their tips.

I took command in 2007 and 2008. My first command was cut short as Big Army made decisions that were well over my head. Fortunately, the next year, I was slated to take command and deploy my company to Iraq.

One of the biggest issues leaders have is maintaining Army property.

You get assigned millions of dollars in equipment and then have to assign it to someone for their use. Company commanders who didn’t have a good grasp on their equipment have paid money for anything that was lost.

I have seen some commanders get charged thousands of dollars and that ends their career.
