the heat of summer to
relax your muscles and bones
that delivers warmth throughout
your body welcomes you to its
affection

the tropics of home
cooling off with sprinklers
and hoses
putting children in small pools
big children to go in big pools
it’s a mingling of being together
on vacation and days off from
school
like salt and pepper
summer and fun go together

birds are more plentiful
on your mailbox or doorstep
or atop your car and filling the
trees
they seem to be everywhere
their chirps and calls like music
reach your heart and wake you up
like the sun, the summer melts
away the cold water from swimming
beaded drops on your arms
disappear
