Going through life, stumbling into sad moments in which we find ourselves struggling with difficult situations — we have the tendency to become a little more enriched by who we really are within, and by our new perceptions. We perhaps feel like singing a song for the first time — or writing a poem, whatever. I feel that the bad situations of the past are a blessing if viewed from the right perspective. Be constructive when you can’t be positive and see what happens…

I wrote a poem today. This is my way to tell the world out loud how I feel about not perceiving any more loneliness and fear for my future. I used to be afraid of almost everything because as a child I was raised that way. Violence was my father’s way to vent out problems and frustrations — in order to feel better and so relieved. It’s sick — I know — but I understand it.

With time I became afraid of the sun, the moon, the things around me, and especially I was terrorized by the people who had questions for me to answer. I was a strange teenager. I always wanted to do things my way and I was not willing to trust anyone trying to help me with my problems — as I did not believe anyone could help someone so mentally messed up as me.

However, I never intended to remain a victim forever. There was a moment in my life when I chose to take responsibility for everything I was feeling inside.

One day I decided to leave my family in Italy, and try to dive into the unknown of new adventures instead. So, I was able to travel alone and very young to another land — the United States of America. I needed to find myself, but most of — all I needed was to discover new horizons and new possibilities. Indeed, I knew I had to start believing in something. Then, my best friend came along. It was me. As I discovered my higher self — I became a new person — able to see through the veils of illusion. I understood many things.

I came to the point that to free myself from fear and anxiety, I had to first love me for who I was — exactly the way I was. I had to forgive myself for everything that became a disappointment to my father, my mother, my family, and the side of me who was ignorant of her own beautiful and natural inner light. My best friend is me. Whatever is going to happen in my life, I will be always with me. That’s how I became wise, confident, determined, courageous, and strong. You can do the same when you feel down.

My poem:

There Is More Than Enough When I Say It’s Me

Simple and free you came to me
Bringing me joy that can’t destroy
The life I was born to live with you

Under the rain I have a place for two
Under the sun there’s only me and you
Smile when you see the moon and feel happy

I found what I lost and I’ll keep it forever
I have now myself, your love is now or never
And I walk filled with joy as I look at the sky

Nothing can hurt me, no one can bring me down
Nothing can change if you change your mind
I was born to be strong, healthy, and shine.
