THERE’S BEETHOVEN’S ODE TO JOY…AND THEN THERE’S MINE

Watering my plants, I water myself
My crackled spirit opening
unfurling petal by petal
softening — root chakra diving
like an insatiable gull or inexhaustible pearl fisher
into the sea,
to the sun cradled in Gaia’s lap

Winged tendrils never melting
as poor benighted Icarus’s did
but burgeoning — ever more
flowerets erupting
splashing rainbow dew

What exhilaration and peace
what simple yet extravagant pleasure
the tending of beauty
bequeaths

My plants sing as I water them. Same piece every time…
Beethoven’s Ode to Joy.
