LLC success at the University of Leeds Partnership Awards

What an awards season it’s been for the Lifelong Learning Centre (LLC)!

As you can see we’ve barely got room for all the certificates on our Welcome Desk…

But what are all these awards for I hear you ask?

Well, it all started at this year’s faculty-level University of Leeds Partnership Awards, which celebrate students and staff who have enhanced the Leeds community by embodying the values of The Leeds Partnership. We were part of the cross-institutional group, which included various services across the University such as the Language Centre and Leeds University Union, and were up against some very strong fellow nominees.

We were absolutely delighted when we were awarded with a total of seven awards at the celebration event!

  • Student Academic Rep of the Year for our School Rep Kevin Doyle
  • School Community Partnership of the Year for our Mature Student Advisory Board (MSAB)
  • The Equality and Inclusion award went to Nadine Cavigioli, Deputy Programme Manager for our Learning and Teaching programme
  • Sonya Holmes, who’s currently studying on our Interdisciplinary Science with Foundation Year BSc, and Joanne Huett, who’s currently studying on our Professional Studies BA, both won an Outstanding Student award
  • The Academic Personal Tutor/Supervisor award went to Lynne Cade, who leads our Preparation for Higher Education (PHE) course
  • The Overall Partnership Award went to the LLC as a whole

We’re so proud of our LLC community and were even more chuffed when we heard that this meant we would be shortlisted for the (big and fancy) overall Partnership Awards in May! It’s always so wonderful to see our students and staff recognised for all their hard work, determination and contributions to our community.

So, we dusted off our glad rags and set off for the awards ceremony (don’t we scrub up well?)

As you’ve probably guessed from the photographs it was a very successful night, with our Mature Student Advisory Board winning School Community Partnership of the Year in its very first year of existence! We couldn’t be more proud of the impact they’ve had in such a short amount of time, and can’t wait to see what the group will achieve next.

The wonderful Nadine Cavigioli was also awarded the Equality and Inclusion Award for her research in this area, as well as her continued work championing inclusive practices and supporting students and staff from under-represented groups.

As well as these, our School Rep Kevin Doyle was shortlisted for the Academic Rep of the Year award out of over 60 student reps at the University — an incredible achievement!

Last but by no means least, we were delighted to be one of the three shortlisted nominees for the Overall Partnership Award and, although we didn’t win, this is a huge accolade in an institution as large as the University of Leeds. We were also very excited to get a special mention from Professor Jeff Grabill (Deputy Vice Chancellor, Student Education) for our enthusiasm at the ceremony, which I’m sure comes as no surprise to anyone who’s met us!

We’d like to thank every student and staff member who submitted a nomination for us — it really means the world and we’re so proud to be part of such a passionate, influential and supportive community.
