Picnic began as a small startup with 8 people. Through multi-tasking and the sharing of roles, the team was in constant interaction. Everyone knew each other and what was going on. This magic of start-up culture is something we’ve always valued, and as the company grew from 30, 40 to 70 people we made sure to keep it this way.

Now in the Amsterdam office, there are over 250 people! It’s a melting pot of diverse backgrounds: interns, analysts, part-timers, engineers, designers, etc. We want to make sure that everyone is always having fun and socialising outside their project group.

That’s why we’ve introduced Island Hopping!

There’s an archipelago of islands across the office, so each Friday, armed with a Picnic Passport, people can spend the day in a different location. By the end of the Island Hopping season, everyone will have worked within all the teams.

Island Hopping adventures help nurture an understanding of Picnic. It’s an eye-opening experience as well as an opportunity to learn from and get to know a new group of people.

Little initiatives like this help us hold onto the start-up magic, while making sure that no-one is ever anonymous. And when you put diverse minds together, a day on an island can be the beginning of new projects!
