Nearly everyone is keeping their eyes out for the “shortcut” to greatness. Whether trying to achieve a business goal, a personal goal, or something in between, most of us are susceptible to marketing that promises silver bullets — simple solutions that will help us find success faster than we would otherwise.

This month, I’ve found some articles about being “great” and how to get there — TL;DR it’s a bunch of small steps, not one big single step that gets you there.

1. This month’s thoughts on being great

How to be great? Just be good repeatedly

The theme of this excellent article is really summed up by its title. Greatness isn’t something that just happens — that’s just luck. Instead, greatness is achieved through hard work and a series of small, almost insignificant but good decisions.

That said, consistency is hard. The article tackles this issue as well as habits, progressions, and steps you can take to create an environment where success is more likely. Read more.

2. This month’s thoughts on redefining success

Adopt the journey mindset to move forward

The previous article was about achieving goals. This article is about what happens after you achieve your goal. Do you continue the habits that helped you achieve your goal or do you fall back to your old way of doing things?

It turns out that if you view the process of achieving your goal as a journey, you’re much more likely to continue the good habits that you establish even after your goal has been achieved. Read the article to learn more about adopting the journey mindset.

3. This month’s guide to how they did it

How successful companies found their first users

If you need inspiration and ideas for growing your product or service and are looking to kick-start your journey to greatness, then check out this resource. It’s a library of stories about how many tech companies found their first users and how they grew in the very early days.

Remember, most of the great companies of today started out as “just another startup” and needed to fight to find new users. Check out this site to read their stories.
