The innovation wave of the last years adds a new dimension to shape the evolution of the electricity industry: innovation policies. Transitions imply disruptive innovations and should be guided by policies that facilitate structural change and smooth out the process. The research of the Energy Innovation Area at the Florence School of Regulation focuses on the interplay among innovation, energy and climate policies.

Electricity industries will enter new worlds of regulation, which need to be explored. To what extent do energy and innovation policies form a coherent vision for a transition towards sustainable energy systems? How do regulations respond to such policies? How do regulations adapt to the evolution of industrial and market processes in energy? From the forefront of knowledge and public debate, the Energy Innovation Area will share articles on the main policy and regulatory issues in the electricity sector.
