Nearly three years ago, almost to the day, I was at the Lightspeed offices whiteboarding with a group of founders about the future of AI in the enterprise to help them think through the vision for their next company.

A few months ago, their company emerged from stealth as Moveworks and is very quickly changing the way enterprises resolve their employees’ problems.

Just last week, Moveworks hosted its inaugural AI conference in downtown San Francisco — Advanced AI for the CIO — bringing together dozens of CIOs from across the country to host an educational deep dive into the ins and outs of AI systems for the enterprise and what CIOs need to know to implement and build AI systems.

Sessions went deep and topics ranged from focusing on NLP/NLU to Semantic Search, Conversational-AI, Operationalizing AI, and more. The presenters included machine learning engineers, PhDs, and CIOs who have successfully deployed AI in the enterprise (including Wendy Pfeiffer of Nutanix). My partner John W Thompson and I also took the stage to discuss the ever-changing role of the CIO and the impact of AI in the enterprise, more broadly.

The content was thoughtfully designed to have the highest utility — essentially the opposite of a standard CIO event with panels and recycled slide decks. It was amazing to hear firsthand from attending CIOs that they walked away from the event feeling empowered to have much deeper conversations with AI vendors, make better decisions about when and where to invest in machine learning and be better able to build AI teams in-house where appropriate.

As I’ve said before, Moveworks is a special company. It’s rare to see a company emerge from stealth mode in such an advanced state, let alone produce such a high impact event out of the gate, and I can’t wait to see what they do next.
