It’s Official: Lightstreams is Launching!
Mainnet Go-Live on 31 March 2019
I am pleased to announce that the Lightstreams Main Network (mainnet) will be live on 31 March 2019. Pending a final security audit, the total supply of Photon (PHT) tokens will be allocated in the first genesis block of the Lightsteams blockchain, ready for distribution.
This momentous occasion is something that I know many of you have been waiting for and I am truly grateful for your patience and support while we made sure that everything was in place to be able to commit to this date.
The Journey So Far
It has been an incredible journey and quite an achievement by our team to reach this point in such a short time. In less than a year, since the first private tokens went on sale, we will have launched an entirely new blockchain network.
Our plan like many other major projects (EOS, FileCoin), was to initially issue ERC20 placeholder tokens on the Ethereum network and then provide a switch later to native tokens once the mainnet was launched. Late last year, we scrapped this plan and instead accelerated the launch of mainnet so that we could issue native PHT tokens that have true utility and ready for apps on day one. This also reduces that unnecessary delay of developing, testing and implementing a complex switch mechanism.
Up and Running
Meanwhile, the Lightstreams Test Network (testnet) has been up and running for some time now and we have open-sourced our code. Today, teams can test their applications to see the increase in performance over using alternative blockchains such as Ethereum and EOS, in terms of transaction speed and transaction confirmation times. These improvements in performance along with the Lightstreams’ Smart Vault for private and secure file sharing is what we believe will make Lightstreams the standard for decentralised networks.
