Lightstreams is Partnering with Pocket to Decentralize Blockchain Infrastructure

Today, we’re super excited to officially announce a new partnership with Pocket that will enable developers to easily connect to and set up new Lightstreams nodes on the Pocket Network.

The amazing team behind Pocket is on a mission to decentralize blockchain infrastructure so that developers can connect any application to any blockchain from any device. This new partnership brings many benefits to developers and businesses building on Lightstreams and will another layer of decentralization at the infrastructure level.

Decentralized infrastructure for developers

Although blockchain infrastructure is one of the most critical layer, today many application developers connect their apps to centralized nodes for their ease-of-use (e.g. Infura). Running a full node has an associated cost and the incentives for running one are not evident. Because of this, the total active synced Ethereum nodes have seen a 50% decline since April 2018.

The Pocket Network identified this problem early and has been working since 2017 on solving this and many other problems at the infrastructure level. By using crypto-economic rewards for participating nodes in the network, Pocket ensures that new nodes are continuously added and are properly incentivized to provide uninterrupted service. Pocket also provides a set of common APIs to different blockchain networks and for different platforms (JS, Android, iOS) so that developers can focus on building their apps instead of worrying about infrastructure.

For application developers

Application developers can use the Pocket Core MVP to abstract away the complexity of running blockchain infrastructure and use one of the SDKs to connect to blockchain nodes via a dispatcher. If you’d like using Pocket as application developer, check out the documentation here.

For service nodes

Developers and companies can easily set up and run any desired blockchain nodes and are rewarded in POKT tokens for providing continuous service to the network. If you are interested in spinning up your own node, check out the documentation here.

Lightstreams, Pocket and the future

Lightstreams and Pocket have missions that are very well aligned and believe in the power of decentralization at every level. This initial integration will make it easier for developers to set up new Lightstreams service nodes and get rewarded for running them. It also provides a path to a more in depth integration where service nodes could become Smart Vault providers. The possibilities are limitless and we’re extremely happy to be working more closely with the very talented team behind the Pocket Network!
