History Fans-Kolossi Castle
In antiquity Limassol was referred to as the Neapolis, meaning New Town. Neapolis was ideally positioned between two famed and prosperous city kingdoms, Amathus and Kourion. Kolossi Castle, one of Limassol’s most impressive landmarks, was built in 1210 in what is at present the historical hub of the city. The present Castle of Kolossi standing was built in 1454 by the Hospitallers in order to protect the city from invading raids.
