There is never a dull moment in Limassol no matter the time of year you choose to visit it. The city is blessed with sunshine all year round making it an ideal tourist destination for visitors. Whether you want to spend your holidays unwinding on the beaches, visit museums and other local attractions or feast on delicious food, Limassol is the place to be! Without a doubt, Limassol is the jewel of Cyprus; it has something to offer all its visitors! All you need to do is choose what to do!

Kolossi Castle is a 15th century fort located in Kolossi village, just 15 kilometres west of Limassol. According to experts, the castle that stands today was constructed on the same site where an earlier castle used to stand, that is presumed to date back to the 13th century. The castle today remains abandoned yet its significance in the past is nonnegotiable. The architecture and grandness of the castle still remains today and is sure to captivate your soul!

In ancient times, the land surrounding the castle was crucial as it was used to cultivate sugarcane and vineyards, so as to produce the famed Cypriot wine known as Coummandaria. In the past Limassol was renowned as being the main exporting centre in Cyprus, where the majority of export goods were gathered from the fertile land surrounding the magnificent Kolossi Castle.

Founded in 1948, the Limassol District Archaeological Museum is the most visited museum in Limassol, exhibiting artefacts as far back as the Neolithic Age to the Roman Period. The three rooms that constitute the museum contain ample objects that project the rich history of Cyprus.
The first room presents tools and pottery found at Amathus and Kourion, dating back to 3000 B.C. till 1300 A.D. The second room of the museum displays sculptures and jewellery that originate from 1700 B.C. Finally, the last room displays important artefacts and findings, mostly excavated from the Amathus site, such as the statue of Artemis.

Cypriot Cuisine

The Cypriot cuisine is so distinct and delicious because they use diverse mixtures of herbs and spices, olive oil and fresh local vegetables, which will undoubtedly captivate you due to the unique flavours and aromas the combination creates. It is well-known that the Cypriots adore their food and so their cuisine surely lies in the heart of their culture.
The Cypriot Souvlaki is also known as ‘kebab,’ which is small pieces of pork on screws, baked on foukues. A fouku is the equivalent to a barbecue, only that the meat is cooked using charcoal. The souvlaki is commonly served in a Cypriot pitta, also known as bread, with salad and tachini, a popular Cypriot dip. Simply delicious!
