In 2016, Vitalik Buterin, the Ethereum creator, wrote:
“Blockchains automate away the center. Instead of putting the taxi driver out of a job, blockchain puts Uber out of a job and lets the taxi drivers work with the customer directly.”
This vision resonated with many. We all bought into a bold vision of a decentralized future. It would use blockchain to reshape industries and empower individuals. It would replace middlemen like Uber and banks with direct relationships.
But now, 15 years after the creation of Bitcoin, where are we, really?
