Why Do We Sweat?

by Lineal Deodorant May 31, 2019

Sweating is the biological phenomenon that regulates the temperature of the human body. When the body’s temperature increases above 36 degrees, the hypothalamus — our brain’s thermostat — signals our body to activate its sweat glands. Once our body begins to perspire, our sweat evaporates and lowers your body temperature closer to 36 degrees.
We often sweat more while exercising or working out, but plenty of other activities prompt our body’s temperature to rise, including situations that make us feel anxious, embarrassed or even angry at times.

WHAT IS SWEAT MADE OF?

Sweat or perspiration, comprises of water, along with small amounts of fat and electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and calcium. This is why sweat tastes salty.
How much do we sweat?
According to various studies, an average adult can secrete up to a litre of sweat every day. Human beings are born with 2–4 million sweat glands on an average, which are spread over our entire body! The exact number of sweat glands we have depends on our genes whereas the amount we sweat depends upon our fitness levels, weight and overall health condition.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN STRESS SWEAT AND WORKOUT SWEAT?

Stress sweat is caused when our body reacts to emotion, for instance, anxiety, embarrassment or anger. Stress sweat is released from the apocrine glands, generally situated near hair follicles under our arms, around the groin and on our scalp. Stress sweat is initially odourless during secretion. However, its slow evaporation as compared to the quick evaporation of workout sweat can lead to the development of strong, unpleasant odours by its combination with bacteria on the skin.
Workout sweat is released due to physical exertion, hot and humid weather conditions or even the excess intake of spicy foods. This type of sweat is secreted through the eccrine glands, which cover nearly the entire body (but are concentrated near the forehead, palms and feet). These glands produce a clear, watery fluid during exercise or and while we eat spicy food items.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO SWEAT?

Sweating is a natural occurrence having two primary benefits. First, sweating helps to cool our body back to its average resting temperature. This is important to prevent overheating. Second, the sweating has been shown to excrete toxins, such as arsenic, mercury, lead, and cadmium, as well as boosting circulation and clearing the skin pores.

HOW DOES LINEAL DEODORANT WORK ON SWEAT?

Lineal Deodorant naturally absorbs sweat and eliminates odour. Lineal contains Coconut Oil that naturally eliminates odour-causing bacteria under the arms to keep you smelling fresh all day long. In addition to this, Arrowroot powder helps to naturally absorb sweat without interfering with the natural sweating mechanism of the body.
