Talking to Jon Udell today about his discoveries around learning, he said some interesting stuff about understanding the process of getting there as distinguished from what there there is. A convoluted conversation once I added my two cents, Jon’s thoughts are as ever simpler and more direct. I imagine he’ll write about it or just do it or both.

Like those early pictures of children, you see the personality fully born as time passes and you learn who they are as they grow. So it is with that joy of discovering something, an idea, or a frame, or a setup to a joke. Watching my daughter draw an eye with the Apple Pencil, I could see her lay down the base shadow with the shading tool. Even then, you knew the thing was about to be alive in the bed of those grey swirls.

A Steph Curry jump shot: oh my God. You see that same look of knowing but not quite knowing where it comes from. That big league feeling of Game 7 or even Game 6, where one team has to be perfect plus something. Living history a laugh of joy at a time.

Does anyone really think they can catch Trump? Perhaps the only way to beat him is to surrender to the power of it, let the inevitability of it really sink in, and then get up and just blow right past him. You can’t assume he’ll release his taxes; assume he won’t. Relax; he’s surfing on his own adrenalin. If you get bored, he’s in trouble. While he’s just noticing that, take the jump shot.
