Blessings for Lunar New Year in China

Spring festival in China is one of the world’s most prominent and celebrated festivals. Families will get together and have lavish reunion dinners during this time. And people set off fireworks to celebrate the coming of the new year, as well as to drive away evil. Streets, buildings and houses are decorated with red. Red laterns hang in street; red couplets are pasted on doors; official buildings are decorated with red New Year pictures.

On the first day of the lunar New Year, Chinese wish each other good luck and happiness in the new year. It is customary for the younger generation to visit their elders and wish them healthy and longevity. And people usually say: “Hope everything goes your way” and “May all your wishes come true” which convey the blessings that people can live a smooth and desirable life with every dream come true.

“Wish you good health” are always said to old people, because everyone believes that having a good body is the most important thing and family members wish old people can accompay them for a longer time. You may not know that“Four generations live under the same roof” is the essence in traditional Chinese family.

When parents give their children red packages, children will say “wish you be happy and prosperous” with the wish of make a lot of money in the new year.
