Contemporarily, there are approximately 6,500 spoken languages within the world (infoplease.com). Among them, significant among of languages are on the edge of extinguishing, because most potential speakers who are able to communicate through these dying languages are incline to use prevail language, such as English. The increasing globalization, to some extent, hinders the growth of language diversity due to the diminishing practicers. From my perspective, language is mainly a tool utilized by individuals to socialize and inherit valuable heritage. The existence of language empowers cultural heritage, as language plays an indispensable role within cultural formation, thus the fate of future cultural diversification is closely tight to the preservation of dying languages.

As a medium for interacting and socializing, language is doom to lose heritage with the diminishing speakers and globalization, thus contributing the gradual loss of related culture, which is an essential feature of individuals’ identity. Culture defines who we are and where is our root. These distinctive and complicated notions are hard to convey and spread without the support of language. For the current public, we tend to adapt to universal languages. However, for the elder who are comparablely isolated from the consistently globalizing world and can only speak native language, but greatly immerse in local cultures, they cannot spread these precious and meaningful cultures, as barely anyone can understand them.

Moreover, even though linguists are able to successively conserve those distinctive but obsolete culture, these cultures are meaningless without practice, thus losing the significance of cultural diverisfication. It is hope for the future that forms different culture. Within the course of practicing culture, languages are need to facilitate the process. Without langage to understand the meaning of certain practice, culture loses its humdrum, which leads to the ultimate vanish of certain cultures.

Language is needed to preserve and practice culture. It grands cultural practice with meaning, thus ensuring the existence of certain culture. Facing the unpreventable globalization, in order to preserve dying languages and culture, the most vital thing for current generation is to acknowledge their necessity. Only by actively embracing different language, can distinctive and colorful culture be preserved.
