It came to our attention that a number of people applying for the Social Data Analyst position were uncertain of the job title and job description. The typical question we receive is, “Is this a Data Analyst/Scientist role or a Community Manager role?”

To help clarify, we decided to ask one of our Social Data Analysts to take us through a typical day in her life, and her weekends too. Here goes…

1. How do you start your day?

I’m a morning person! No matter how late I go to bed.

I wake up around 7:00 am. One of the things I try to do every morning is practice 30 minutes of yoga, which really helps me with my back posture, plus it fills me with energy throughout the day. I also try as much as possible to have a decent breakfast that could include, depending on the mood, a bowl of wholegrain cereal with fruit or avocado toast.

2. What does your work involve?

A Social Data Analyst’s job involves trying to understand a client’s market and helping them get the most information from the social media data available. In other words, we’re here to help brands estimate and understand their impact on people’s lives. How do we do this? We collect the data publicly accessible on the web, analyze it and decode the information for our clients, to help them understand what individuals, communities, and people around the globe really want to express.

At present, I help with writing a daily newsletter for one of our clients. This task includes using the company’s tool Radarly to gather the data within a certain period. Based on that, I write a report based on the information collected. This information includes pointers like the “engagements actions” reached for the selected topics during a particular time frame.

Another project that I’m currently working on is the monthly report for one of our clients. It involves reporting on the activities of the present month and comparing it to the previous one. For me, two of the things that I love most about my job as a Social Data Analyst is; helping clients observe the evolution of their brands, and helping them answer, based on the data collected, the fundamental questions of why? how? and where? those numbers appeared.

3. What attracted you to Linkfluence?

Last year, I had the opportunity to do a 4 month Internship at Linkfluence for the first year of my master's program and I just loved the multicultural work environment. What makes Linkfluence stand out from other companies, is the multicultural environment. It brings people from different backgrounds to work together, providing the client with transnational expertise. After I finished my master's program, I decided to apply again to the full-time Social Data Analyst position and I haven’t regretted it since!

4. What is the most challenging part of your job?

I would say that one of the things I find challenging is meeting deadlines. Don’t get me wrong, everyone has deadlines to meet, but when a client decides they want something different at the last minute it could throw you off a bit. But that is the beauty of teamwork.

There are often 2 or 3 other Social Media Analysts assigned to a project, so we just combine forces, make the changes and provide our client with the best results.

5. What do you like most about this job?

Probably the fact that we get to work with clients from different industries e.g. luxury, automobile, pharmaceutical, and many others. It is great because your work is never monotonous. I also love the fact that I get to work with very smart, cool, diverse people who also happen to be experts in the field. You get to learn a lot from them on a daily basis. One of the things I appreciate is that even though there is a hierarchy (like in any job), our team always makes you feel like your time and work is valued and that your contributions count.

6. What is something you look forward to every day?

I think that being professional and giving my best at work is very important. But, doing so in a friendly environment is priceless. Building friendships are important for me and I get to do that here.

Linkfluence is a place where colleagues become friends. Every day, I look forward to spending time with them, asking them how their day is going and certainly sharing our plans for the weekend.

7. How do you balance your work life?

I try as much as possible to disconnect from everything to do with my job over the weekend. I think work-life balance is key for productivity. I usually plan a visit to a museum, or I just hang out with my friends. I also really enjoy listening to music. My playlist includes classics like “Take It Easy” by Mika all the way to “Reality” by Lost Frequencies. I identify a lot with these two songs which talk about the decisions we make in our daily lives and the ups and downs we all go through “….but don’t worry, if you fail, there are so many roads left to try”.

On the other hand, I’m a member of the United Nations association at Sorbonne University. We debate on trending topics and practice for UN model conferences. Last year, I had the chance to participate in a UN model conference in Beirut, Lebanon and it was one of the most wonderful experiences I’ve had. I met people from all over the world who have now become friends.

8. What are some of the principles Linkfluence upholds?

Generally speaking, I have learned a number of things from Linkfluence that have helped me to improve myself and give my best at work, one of which is integrity. With the kind of job we do, it is important to be honest in our reports while remaining reliable.

Sometimes, clients ask us for some reports with preconceived expectations, but after we show them the reality based on our research and data analysis, they realize there’s a huge gap between reality and expectation. We try not to fine-tune the facts based on what a client expects and that’s really important. Linkfluence is a customer-oriented, client-centric company. But we remain true to our values.

Linkfluence is clearly here to make a difference and set the pace for others in our industry. We are ambitious game changers and we are glad our clients see that as well.

According to Craig Cincotta, there are three types of people: “People who want things to happen, people who watch things happen and people who make things happen”.

“Linkfluencers make things happen!”

9. What would you say to someone considering applying for this job?

Do it! Just do it! You will never regret working in a young, diverse, multicultural organization, committed to a gender-balanced workforce.

So, if you’re passionate, curious about what’s happening in the world and want to be part of shaping the future of social media intelligence, then this is where you belong, and we definitely want you in our team!
