A Dive-in to the Difference between Data Science & Machine Learning

We have seen that many people use the two terms, Machine Learning and Data Science interchangeably when referring to either one of them. There was always a question in my mind whether these two are the same.

Therefore, I did some digging, and here’s what I found.

Data Science

Data science can be described as the description, prediction, and causal inference from both structured and unstructured data. This discipline helps individuals and enterprises make better business decisions¹.

Simply saying, Data Science is about analyzing data deeply in order to make more accurate and effective decisions. There are specific job roles for this purpose as well.

Data Analysts analyze data in order to find patterns in them and to bring out meaningful insights/information, which in return helps businesses take various effective decisions. Data Analysts use various tools for this task such as Microsoft Power BI (BI for Business Intelligence), Tableau Public, and Rapid Miner, which is a popular tool for Data Mining tasks.
