MacOS and Linux use MIME and Not File Extensions

Mac and Linux use File extensions and MIME type information while Windows relies on extensions #period.

Wouldn’t it be a fair assumption if I said that Linux Distributions rely on MIME type information the same way that Windows relies on extensions in order to view or execute certain commands?
