Like me, some of you may have been introduced to SoftMaker Office via some mini-drama that happened earlier this year. Remember when Manjaro decided to offer up the Microsoft Office competitor as an alternative to the Linux distro staple that is LibreOffice? Yea, that drama. Turns out, it’s a pretty decent office suite that looks good, offers up strong compatibility with Microsoft Office formats, and runs natively on Windows, Linux and macOS.

And on that note, SoftMaker Office 2021 now natively supports Macs with Apple’s shiny new M1 processor without the need for CPU emulation (even though Rosetta 2 is no slouch). The new installer even detects whether you’re running on an Intel Mac or M1 Mac and selects the correct version for you.

SoftMaker has a variety of entryways into its office suite, including a free 30-day trial, one-time paid and annual subscription options. Paying for the software lets you install it on up to 5 machines.

If you feel like playing with a solid alternative to Redmond’s Office and the FOSS mainstay that is LibreOffice, you can find the free version of SoftMaker Office 2021 here.
