2014 Keever Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2014 Keever Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon reminds me a lot of why I love to drink wines from the Yountville AVA. This is an incredibly sexy, medium-to-full Napa Valley cabernet with expressive, perfumed, black and red fruits. Like most 2014s, this is not ready to drink on popping the cork, but the tannins in this wine become soft and velvety with a 6 hour decant.

The Keever Vineyards property is located on the Mayacamas hillsides, so you get a nice combination of the plushness from the valley floor with a little elegance characteristic of mountain fruit. This is very characteristic of the 2014 vintage which I have found to offer darker, more serious wines. In many ways, the 2014s are like the 2013s that have had their power turned down a few notches.

The 2014 Keever was a one-off $99 purchase from Last Bottle. In the future, I would like to see how their 2013 and 2016 stack up against other Yountville wines.

93 points.
