Kryptonite is not the only thing that can hurt Superman. Indeed, the Man of Steel has several greater in vulnerabilities.

Interestingly, even hard-core comics fans are often unaware of Superman’s catalog of weaknesses. Largely because of lazy writing. Remember, Kryptonite is such a simple plot device that it is now part of the English language. We’ve all heard the phrase, “that’s her Kryptonite.”

Yet Superman has far more to worry about than just Kryptonite. We’ll list just a few of those threats here.

Five Greater Threats to Superman than Kryptonite include:

5. Kryptonian Weather and Black Lightning

Black Lightning does not refer to a B-List DC hero. Instead, it is a Kryptonian weather phenomenon. Way back in Action Comics 441 in 1974, one of the Flash’s Rogues Gallery, the Weather Wizard, discovered one of Superman’s greatest weaknesses.

Ironically, the Wizard learned of that weakness from a book written by Lois Lane, The Fabulous World of Krypton. This weakness was Black Lightning, a Kryptonian weather phenomenon. The Wizard explains, “black lightning sent a Kryptonian into a murderous rage that could be relieved only by killing the closest person.”
