A glimmer of hope

crushed in an instant of fate

A smile turned to

a quivering line

Eyes once radiant

with joy

now struggling to see

through a curtain of water

Unwillingly traded high hopes for

despair so deep

drowning in sorrow

afraid of what tomorrow

might bring

In a peaceful moment

the sun shines on your face

bathing it in light

Your mouth twitches

and I remember

the way you used to be
