An Episode of Rain

A drizzle and beads
of battered things
flow like swollen hunting fire ants
on a hot summer’s day.

Then the rain comes
falling down on damp soil,
flooding and flooding till
the drizzle drizzled no more.

Simmering winds
drew back curtains of clouds,
that have left scatters of
lazy puddles all around.

As the puddles dried up,
a sickening thought sunk in:
Is there no better way to woe
than to wait for the rain to start again?
