Before My Very Eyes

I keep my mind preoccupied
that’s really all I do.
I just think of other things
so I won’t think of you.
But now and then there comes a time
when things and thoughts run dry,
and just like magic, there you stand
before my very eyes.

I keep a picture on my desk
one of me and you,
sitting in your favorite chair
while you lace up my shoe.
But I try not to look at it
because it makes me cry.
Images of you again
before my very eyes.

I can feel your strength in me
It’s growing day by day.
Still I wish that you’d come back
if there were just some way.
But I’ll just think of other things
and stay preoccupied,
and see you every now and then
before my very eyes.
